TXT180 vs Flocknote: Church Texting Costs and Features Compared

Last materially reviewed 2026-10-03

Quick answerFlocknote is a church tool with unlimited standard texts and email, priced by member count and free up to 40 members. TXT180 charges per credit and wins for larger lists texted rarely.

TXT180 vs Flocknote: two different ways of charging

The two are priced on different things, so the cheaper one depends on church size and how often you text. Flocknote is a church communication tool: its pricing page describes church texting, email and member management, and says it works with more than 11,000 churches. Flocknote Starter is priced by total member count and includes unlimited email and unlimited standard texting. TXT180 is a general group texting service priced by credits, where one SMS to one person is one credit.

Entry prices, as read on 3 October 2026: TXT180 is $24.95 month-to-month for 500 credits, or $18.49 a month billed annually. Flocknote Starter is labeled free for life for 0 to 40 members, then $10 a month for 41 to 50 members. Flocknote's pricing page shows monthly prices only.

Three church sizes worked through

Flocknote's Starter tiers run $25 a month for 71 to 100 members, $42 for 101 to 200, $58 for 201 to 400 and $73 for 401 to 600.

Monthly cost at three church sizes, monthly billing, as read on 3 October 2026
Church and texting patternCredits neededTXT180Flocknote Starter
35 members, 4 texts a month140$24.95 (500 plan)No charge
150 members, 4 texts a month600$39.95 (1,000 plan)$42

400 members, 2 texts a month800$39.95 (1,000 plan)$58

So Flocknote costs less for the smallest church and for the 150-member church that texts twice a week. TXT180 costs less in the other two rows, by $2.05 for 150 members texted weekly and by $18.05 for 400 members texted twice a month, and its annual billing lowers the 1,000-credit plan to $29.95 a month. These rows assume every member is on the text list. Flocknote counts all members in the network, while TXT180 only uses credits for the people you actually text.

One thing each does that the other does not

Flocknote only: email newsletters, event signups and online giving sit in the same account as texting, with unlimited admins and groups on Starter. The Complete package adds a household database and donor management for $75 a month on top of the Starter price.

TXT180 only: unlimited opt-in keywords on every plan, a message scheduler for daily, weekly or monthly sends, and drip messages timed from the day someone joins. It is also open to schools, clubs and businesses, not only churches.

Who should pick TXT180 and who should pick Flocknote

  • Pick Flocknote if you are a church of 40 or fewer, if you text more than once a week, or if you want to replace separate email and giving tools.
  • Pick TXT180 if you already have email and giving sorted, want texting only, and send a few announcements a month to a list of several hundred.
  • If you are still deciding whether texts or email should carry your weekly notices, read email or SMS. For a wider list of church options, see mass text services for churches.

What switching between TXT180 and Flocknote involves

Members will get texts from a different number after the move, so announce it from the pulpit or in the bulletin first. Flocknote's pricing page lists free data transfer from a previous household database as part of Complete. TXT180's features page says list imports are enabled by its support team once regulatory requirements are met. Only bring people who agreed to texts.

Leaving TXT180 means phoning customer support, with three business days' notice on monthly billing or 30 days on prepaid annual billing. Warning: TXT180's terms say unused prepaid bundles are forfeited at termination and archived data is deleted within 60 days. Export first, because it cannot be undone. A test run with one ministry group is described in the pilot plan.
