What Is TXT180? The Group Texting Service Explained in Plain Terms

Last materially reviewed 2026-10-03

Quick answerTXT180 is a US-only, web-based group texting service from TXT180, Inc. of St. George, Utah. Plans start at 500 credits for $24.95 month-to-month, as read on 3 October 2026.

TXT180 is a web-based service for sending one text to many opted-in people

TXT180 is a group texting service: an organization signs up, gets its own texting number and keyword, collects opt-ins, and then sends one text message to its whole list or to a group from a browser. It is run by TXT180, Inc., which its About page describes as a Utah corporation with offices in St. George, founded in 2010. The pricing page states that the service is for US text messaging only.

It is built for one-to-many announcements such as event reminders, schedule changes, daily devotionals and offers. Replies do not go to the group. The features page says a reply to a group message arrives as an individual message in the sender's TXT180 inbox, where staff can answer one to one.

How TXT180 works: keyword, number, opt-in, send

The How It Works page lays the process out in order:

  1. Sign up, choose a keyword and choose a toll-free number.
  2. Promote the keyword and number on printed material, your website or social media.
  3. People opt in by texting the keyword to the number. They get an automatic reply that you can edit.
  4. Send a group text to everyone who opted in, now or on a schedule.

The FAQ adds that the only equipment needed is a computer with internet access, because the control panel is web based. The features page also lists iPhone and Android apps for sending from a phone. Contacts can be typed in or imported from a spreadsheet, but the features page says importing has to be enabled by the support team once regulatory requirements are met. TXT180's own pages disagree on the number type: the pricing and How It Works pages describe a toll-free number, while the FAQ still refers to short codes. Confirm which one you will get before you print the number anywhere.

TXT180 plans and prices on 3 October 2026

TXT180 sells nine plans that differ only in monthly credits. One SMS to one person uses one credit and one MMS uses three. The pricing page shows two prices for each plan: month-to-month, and a lower monthly rate when billed annually.

TXT180 plans, US dollars, as read on 3 October 2026
Credits per monthMonth-to-monthPer month, billed annually
500$24.95$18.49
1,000$39.95$29.95
1,500$54.95$44.95
2,000$69.95$54.95
2,500$79.95$59.95
5,000$129.95$99.95
10,000$199.95$199.95
25,000$369.95$369.95
50,000$625.00$625.00

From 10,000 credits up, the two prices are the same. Two figures elsewhere on TXT180's site do not match this table: the pricing page's search description mentions $1 for the first month, which the visible page does not offer, and a refund example in the terms uses a $215.40 annual prepayment, where 12 times $18.49 is $221.88. Confirm the amount at checkout. There is a 15-day trial with 50 messages, a dedicated number and one custom keyword, and the page says no credit card is required. The page also states no setup fees, no contracts and no cancel fees. For a line-by-line reading, see TXT180 pricing explained.

What every TXT180 plan includes and what costs extra

The pricing page lists the same inclusions for every plan:

  • A dedicated number and unlimited keywords
  • Unlimited contacts and groups
  • Incoming SMS at no charge
  • Phone, email and chat support

The features page adds a message scheduler for daily, weekly or monthly sends, saved templates, drip messages, sub-user logins, a website sign-up widget, QR codes and a Zapier connection. MMS can be switched on for paid accounts.

Extra credits are sold as rollover bundles that do not expire while the account is active: 500 or 1,000 credits at $0.04 each, 2,500 at $0.035 and 5,000 at $0.03, with lower rates for larger bundles. An additional number costs $10 to set up and $10 a month. The FAQ notes that required system messages, such as replies to STOP and HELP, also count as messages. A simple way to size a plan is in the credit budget guide.

Who TXT180 suits and who should choose something else

TXT180 suits a church, club, school office or small business that wants plain SMS announcements to an opted-in list, sent by one or two people, at a low fixed monthly price. A list of 250 people texted four times a month needs 1,000 credits, which is the $39.95 month-to-month plan.

It is a weaker fit in three cases. A church that also wants email newsletters, online giving and a member database in one product should compare TXT180 with Flocknote. A team that needs to text Canadian numbers needs a service that covers Canada, such as EZ Texting. And TXT180's terms say the service is not to be used as an emergency alert system, so it does not replace a dedicated emergency notification product. Other options are set out in TXT180 alternatives.
